Vertex Athletes

Get found by people who don't know you yet.

Vertex Athletes are the creators on VERTEX. They log and share workouts like everyone else, and they post like they would anywhere else: writing, photos, the things that don't fit inside a set-and-rep log. In the Discover feed, their posts carry three times the ranking score. In the feeds of people who already follow them, nothing changes at all.

It is not a verification badge, and we are careful about the difference. Read on for what that means.

What it changes

Three things an ordinary account doesn't get.

A mark that follows you everywhere

A volt ring around your avatar and a volt check after your name. It shows on your profile, on every post, in comments, in search, in follower lists, on the leaderboards, and on the lock screen when someone gets a notification about you.

14 surfaces, one component

Post more than workouts

Vertex Athletes get a composer in the feed header: up to 280 characters and four photos, with no workout attached. It lands in your followers' feed, in Discover and on your profile, and it takes kudos, comments and replies like anything else.

Three times the score in Discover

Discover ranks on engagement and recency. A Vertex Athlete's post enters that ranking with a 3× multiplier, so it surfaces reliably rather than waiting for numbers it hasn't got yet. Three, not thirty: an ordinary post with real engagement still beats a quiet one from a creator.

3× ranking multiplier

Where the boost applies

Discover, and only Discover.

The Feed tab is two panes, one swipe apart, and the mark behaves completely differently in each. This is the part worth reading before you apply, because it is the part people assume wrong.

Discover

Ranked. You are promoted here.

Every post gets a score and the highest scores rise. Three things build it:

Engagement
A comment counts for more than a kudos, because it costs more to leave.
Freshness
Scores fade with age. A day old post keeps about 44% of its score, a week old one about 9%.
The mark
A Vertex Athlete's post is multiplied by three, on top of the other two.

Posts of comparable score swap places on every pull to refresh, so a quiet day never returns the same feed twice.

Following

Newest first. Nothing is promoted.

The feed of people you follow is sorted by time and by nothing else. No score, no multiplier, no mark in the sort. A Vertex Athlete's post sits exactly where it was posted, above the ones before it and below the ones after.

That is a deliberate limit on the programme rather than an oversight. People follow their friends one at a time, and a friend's quiet Tuesday session with two kudos on it is the reason they opened the app. Ranking that feed would make the mark worth more and the app worth less.

What the mark still does here: the volt edge, the ring and the badge, so your followers know the post is yours at a glance. Position is untouched.

How you become one

Two ways in. Neither of them is buying it.

Open either one.

Our team watches social for people already doing the thing: training honestly, in public, with an audience that trusts them. If that's you, we get in touch. There is nothing to submit and nothing to chase.

  1. 1We reach outWe spot you on social and ask whether you'd like early access to the app.
  2. 2You use it on your own termsExplore it, log real sessions, and take as long as you need to form an actual opinion. We don't script this part and we don't ask for anything while it's happening.
  3. 3You post about it onceOnly once you're comfortable with the app and genuinely like what you're using. Your channels, your words.
  4. 4You post a second timeOnce the first is validated, a second post confirms it wasn't a one-off. That's the whole commitment.
  5. 5You're a Vertex AthleteThe mark goes live across the app and your posts enter Discover with the 3× multiplier. What happens next is up to the algorithm: kudos and comments decide how far each post actually travels.

50–100creators, for now

That is the whole list at this stage, and it stays that size for an undefined period. It isn't manufactured scarcity. A 3× multiplier only means something while it's rare, and past a certain number of creators Discover stops being a feed and becomes a directory, which is the problem it was built to fix.

Before you apply

Four things the app checks first.

All four are enforced by the database rather than by the button, so the app will tell you exactly which one you're missing instead of failing after you've written the application.

A public account

Discover can only show what's public. This is a condition of keeping the status, not just of getting it: flipping to private gives it up, and the database enforces that rather than the app.

A claimed @handle

Thirty seconds in Settings. People need something to tag.

At least five shared posts

Enough for us to see what you'd bring. About a week of training.

No denial in the last 30 days

If we said no, the door reopens automatically after a month. The app shows you the date.

Questions

The ones worth answering.

Start by training. The rest follows.

Five shared posts is the bar, and it's about a week of honest training. Log those, claim your handle, and the application is one screen away in Settings.
